7th Annual AlpArray Scientific Meeting, Bad Hofgastein
The final scientific meeting of AlpArray/4D-MB took place from the 4-6th of October 2023 in Bad Hofgastein in the Austrian Alps . Together, we explored how AlpArray has changed our understanding of mountain-building. We took stock of the unprecedented view of the deep structure beneath the Alps afforded by the AlpArray project and its complimentary experiments. These new images resolved some debates on mountain building, while giving rise to others. Online-Workshop: „Interpreting geophysical observables with the Geophysical Model Generator“
The wealth of data that has come from the AlpArray and 4DMB initiatives now allows us to develop three-dimensional subsurface models of the Alps with an unprecedented resolution. However, creating consisting models still remains challenging, due to technical issues (e.g. different data formats, spatial resolutions, etc.) or discrepancies between different data sets. Within the scope of MB4D, we have therefore recently developed the “Geophysical Model Generator” (GMG), which is aimed to assist the generation of consistent three-dimensional subsurface models. To do so, GMG provides a set of tools to import different data sets (e.g. Moho maps, tomography, seismicity, receiver functions), convert them to a common data format and to process them further (e.g. create vote maps of seismic tomographies, create vertical and horizontal profiles at arbitrary positions etc.). To further assist the comparison and interpretation of different data sets, we have developed a graphical user interface (see the figure below) which allows to load the combined data from vertical profiles and to jointly interpret them with the goal of obtaining subsurface 3D geometries. In this online workshop, I would like to present this graphical user interface and to introduce its functionalities. The workshop will be a hands-on workshop where we will work with existing datasets to experience the workflow of data comparison and interpretation and to enable the participants to independently follow this workflow. The workshop will take place on August 31 st , starting at 10.00 CET. Registered participants will receive a link to the online meeting in the days before. The workshop schedule is planned as follows (but is quite flexible to adjust to the needs of the participants): 10.00 General introduction 10:15 Introduction to the GMG 10:30 Introduction of the GUI 11:00 Hands-on activity 12:30 break 14:00 Hands-on activity 17:00 End If you are interested in participating, please register for the workshop by sending an e-mail with the subject “GMG GUI workshop” to marcel.thielmann(at)uni-bayreuth.de .

6th Annual AlpArray Scientific Meeting, Prague 2022
Dear Colleagues, We are pleased to announce that the 6th Annual AlpArray Scientific Meeting will be hosted in Prague, from the 12th-14th of October 2022. We are hoping for an even bigger turnout than in recent years! The AlpArray project has moved beyond the seismological experiment (2016-2019) to a stage where the wealth of new data is being interpreted and debated. In addition, a spinoff in the form of a new project, AdriaArray, has started. The meeting will bring together geoscientists from the 17 member states and 64 institutions making up the AlpArray consortium, as well as others engaged in Alpine research that is relevant to AlpArray and AdriaArray. The scientific programme comprises three sessions on the surface, crust, and mantle of the Alps and neighbouring mountain belts and basins. We are delighted that Jaroslava Plomerová and her colleagues at the IGCAS in Prague have renewed their offer to host the meeting in collaboration with the 4DMB project. The meeting will be free for registered participants, as the running costs (including lunch and refreshments) will be covered by the 4DMB (German Research Foundation).

Conference: Annual EGU meeting
The EGU General Assembly 2020 will take place in Vienna (Austria) on 3–8 May 2020. There will be a special AlpArray session and several research group meetings. AlpArray session at EGU2020 Dear colleagues, After successful sessions since 2012 and almost 4 years of recordings by the AlpArray Seismic Network, we invite you to submit an abstract to EGU 2020 session: TS7.6: The Alps and neighbouring mountain belts (Apennines, Dinarides, Carpathians): a multidisciplinary vision (AlpArray) Conveners: Anne Paul, Mark Handy, György Hetényi, Marco Malusá and Irene Molinari Abstrct : The Alps have been intensively studied by geologists for more than a century, providing a unique natural laboratory to deepen our understanding of orogenic processes and their relationship to mantle dynamics. Although most concepts that underlie current studies of mountain belts and convergence dynamics were born in the Alps, the belt is now being examined with renewed vigour in the AlpArray project. This project involves a large number of European institutions, with efforts focused on the AlpArray Seismic Network to provide homogeneous seismological coverage of the greater Alpine area at unprecedented aperture and station density, both on land and sea. New data is being recorded in a multidisciplinary research effort, and other projects are being planned in the immediate and mid-term future. Within this context, we invite contributions from the Earth Science community that highlight new results in AlpArray and that identify and solve key open questions of the present and past structure and dynamics of the Alps and neighbouring orogens. Both disciplinary and multi-disciplinary contributions are welcome from geophysical imaging, (seismo)tectonics, structural geology, gravimetry, geodesy, geodynamics, petrology, geochronology and other allied fields, combined with various modelling approaches. Scales of interest range from crustal to upper mantle, in the Alps and neighbouring mountain belts such as the Apennines, the Carpathians and the Dinarides. Please note that the deadline for abstract submission is January 15, 13:00 CET. To submit your abstract (you need to login to the EGU website): https://meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU2020/abstractsubmission/36290 Please read the guidelines on how to submit an abstract carefully here. ----------------------------------- AlpArray meetings/events at EGU2020 - AlpArray " Surface wave , ambient noise and full waveform inversion Research Group" meeting: Sunday, May 3 2020 , right before the EGU meeting, University of Vienna.
